Sunday, May 12 Barri Gotic & El Born

As Sunday came, we slowed to almost a crawl. It was a beautiful sunny morning and Gary rushed me out of the apartment so we can visit his "must see" item on the list. - The Picasso museum. Picasso was born in Malaga on the coast of Spain 1904 - 1986. His family moved to Barcelona when he was a teenager and he had always had close ties to this city. The exhibit covers works through out his life when he lived in Corunna, Malaga, Madrid, Horta de Sant Joan, Barcelona and his time in Paris.
When he was young, he was taught to paint like an adult.

When he was an adult he painted like a child.

There was lots of work between the two extreme .... Below is a portrait of Jacqueline, his wife.

Picasso was still alive when the museum was created in 1963. The museum is indebted to his close friend from his youth, Jaume Sabartes and other actors from the mid-fifties. After the death of his friend and personal secretary (Sabartes), Picasso donated his later works to the museum in memory of their long friendship together in Barcelona. The museum is located in the El Born area in the heart of the many workshops and residences where Picasso had lived and worked.

We spent three hours in the museum and it was time to enjoy the sun outside. Port Vell is where cruise ships arrive and where the Columbus monument stands to greet visitors. Chris is not pointing to America but is the first to do the Saturday Night Fever dance. Can u spot Aldo Gary?
Ah, here he is!
Gina! stop taking pictures of ham we will be having dinner soon!

Okay, okay. We soaked up the last of the late afternoon rays with the help of sangras on the beach. (u gotta love the Spanish ways) After a few glasses, Gary got brave and took a dip in the Mediterranean.

On our last evening in Barcelona, Gary did night photography before we said goodbye to our quiet little apartment.

Look, one got away from the paella pan! gotcha!

buenas noches Barcelona.....Adios.
